FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - nvtip -- Stephon Gilmore felt motivated to share a very personal moment in his household, that he knew would be impactful in other homes, so he penned a note to his 5-year-old son, Sebastian, addressing why his life matters. Gilmore went on to use his platform and highlight the moment within the 'My Cause My Cleats' campaign, for this year's incredibly different type of season.
Stephon Gilmore is one of the legacy players in the NFL, that allow his game to do most of the talking. The note starts off with "I know you're only 5 years old, but by the time you're able to fully understands the words on this page, I hope you don't have to experience the ugly truth within the answer to your innocent question". Gilmore also writes "Black Lives Matter because a little Black boy like you with beautiful black skin, is just as important as another boy or girl with lighter skin or even blue skin". "Our world would be a better place if we led with love and kindness, like we try to teach you and your sister", Gilmore said. The heartfelt letter shows a lot of emotion football players don't normally display.

While masked and interviewed 10 feet away, in Foxborough, MA, Gilmore was asked what he wanted people to take away from this. He shared the hope that this inspires and challenges others to have conversations with our younger generation, because they are aware of everything going on.
The chosen non-profit for the 'My Cause My Cleats' campaign, is the Gilmore Family Foundation, which 'is committed to assisting underserved youth, by providing resources that encourage them to reach their potential, excel within education, and keep their mind, body, and spirit, active and healthy'. Gilmore and his wife, Gabrielle, plan to incorporate an annual initiative that focuses on social justice reform. The cleats were strategically designed by Marcus Rivero, also known as @SolesBySir.
My Cause My Cleats
"Through the My Cause My Cleats campaign, players have the opportunity to pick a cause that is important to them and represent their chosen organization on custom designed cleats. This season, players will reveal their custom designed, cause inspired cleats on December 1, Giving Tuesday and wear them during all Week 13 games. Players can also raise funds for their cause of choice through auctioning their cleats via NFL Auction where 100% of funds raised will be donated to charities selected by players. Fans can bid on game-issued player cleats at NFL.com/Auction."
