LAS VEGAS, Nov. 7, 2024 ~ In a recent vote, pilots from Allegiant Air represented by Teamsters Local 2118 have overwhelmingly authorized a strike if the airline fails to reach a fair agreement with its 1,300 pilots nationwide. The vote, with a majority of 97.4 percent, highlights the frustration and determination of the pilots to secure better working conditions and compensation.
According to Captain David Mercado, an Allegiant Teamsters pilot with Local 2118, the airline has been demanding concessions during negotiations for a new contract. This has led to dissatisfaction among the pilots who are seeking industry-standard compensation and improvements in scheduling. Allegiant pilots are known to be some of the most overworked and underpaid in the industry.
Despite Allegiant's record-breaking revenue of $2.5 billion last year and their recent $25 million-a-year deal for naming rights to the Las Vegas Raiders' home stadium, the airline has been reluctant to meet the demands of its pilots.

In response to this, Teamsters pilots will be holding a practice picket outside of Allegiant's corporate headquarters in Las Vegas on November 12. This is just one of many direct actions being taken by Allegiant pilots at their airline hubs across the country.
Captain Michael Nichols, another Allegiant Teamsters pilot, emphasized that this strike vote is not just about securing better pay but also about ensuring the viability of Allegiant and the communities they serve. Without an industry-standard contract, it will be difficult for them to attract and retain skilled pilots.
Currently, Teamsters Local 2118 and Allegiant Air are engaged in mediation sessions conducted by the federal National Mediation Board (NMB). However, under the Railway Labor Act, the Teamsters have the option to request a release from NMB which could lead to a 30-day cooling-off period followed by a work stoppage without notice.
Teamsters Local 2118 represents hardworking Allegiant Air pilots nationwide and is committed to fighting for their rights. For more information, visit apa2118.org. For media inquiries, please contact Shane McCarthy at (203) 300-2178.
