PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis., Sept. 24, 2025 ~ Morchem, a global producer of laminating adhesives, is celebrating its fortieth anniversary this month. The company will also be showcasing its latest solventless adhesives at the upcoming PACK EXPO in Las Vegas next week.
According to Morchem North American President Michael Reed, there is a growing trend in the flexible packaging industry towards more sustainable and cost-effective solvent-free adhesives. As older converting assets are being replaced, there is a greater interest in introducing solutions that reduce material and energy usage in the laminating process.
With expertise in both solvent-based and solvent-free laminating adhesives, Morchem is well-equipped to understand the advantages of both technologies. While solvent-based adhesives have traditionally been used for demanding applications such as those requiring high chemical or thermal resistance, or for laminates produced at high speeds, Morchem has been able to improve solvent-free systems to meet these requirements.
"We will be showcasing some of our customers' new packages at PACK EXPO," says Cristina Ventayol, Morchem's Chief Commercial Officer. "It's exciting to see these new technologies making their way onto store shelves where they can benefit consumers."

By eliminating solvents from the lamination process, Morchem's customers can reduce incoming freight costs, energy usage, emissions, and overall cost-in-use for their laminates. Maintaining high optical appearance in these structures is crucial and Morchem has successfully addressed this challenge, particularly in barrier-to-barrier laminates that require low carbon dioxide retention.
Some of Morchem's higher performance adhesives are specifically designed for monomaterial films to improve the recyclability of flexible packaging and support lightweighting initiatives that reduce material usage and cost. Monomaterial films are essential for enabling the recycling of flexible packaging without downcycling into lower grade applications.
"Our mission as 'Your Innovation Partner' is driven by the increasing demand for sustainable solutions," says Reed. "We work closely with our customers to understand not only their film requirements, but also the package requirements of their customers, stores, and consumers."
Ventayol adds that as flexible packaging continues to evolve, there will likely be a shift from rigid containers to more flexible packaging. This natural progression eliminates waste and reduces costs in terms of freight, energy, and material usage.
