RENO, Nev. - nvtip -- NVision Optix is raising awareness about the importance of protecting the eyes from ultraviolet (UV) exposure, helping patients throughout Reno, Sparks, Lake Tahoe, and surrounding Northern Nevada communities better understand how daily sun exposure can impact long-term eye health.

While many people remember to apply sunscreen before spending time outdoors, eye protection is often overlooked. Snow and water can amplify UV exposure by reflecting sunlight back toward the eyes. In winter conditions, snow can create especially high levels of reflection, increasing exposure from both overhead sunlight and reflected light below.

NVision Optix recommends patients prioritize eye protection during prolonged outdoor activity, particularly during peak sun hours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Recommended protection includes:

• Sunglasses with 100% UVA and UVB protection
• UV400-certified lenses
• Prescription sunwear when needed
• Wraparound frames or goggles for snow sports
• Hats for additional coverage

While hats can help reduce some exposure, they do not provide complete protection. Proper UV-blocking eyewear remains one of the most effective tools for protecting the eyes.
