The Biggest Clear Span Roof Trusses in Western Canada - Manufactured in Fort Macleod, Alberta by Structural Truss Systems.
FORT MACLEOD, Alberta - nvtip -- With a dedicated in-house design team and a highly efficient production facility, Structural Truss Systems has been providing custom solutions for post-frame and residential projects throughout Western Canada for over 40 years. This year, that custom solution turned out to be 120-Foot-Long Clear Span Trusses.
The project, for a large farm shop near Vauxhall, Alberta, was originally quoted in steel before the client discovered that Structural Truss had the capacity to manufacture clear span roof trusses at the 120-foot length required for the project. Not only would this be a cost-effective solution but would not hinder the desired size of the building.
"This type of project is only possible because we have the ability and eagerness to solve our customers problems. We love finding those solutions – no matter the size." Says Ben Grisnich, Senior Designer for Structural Truss.

These massive trusses were designed to be all in one, with high heel height, no piggy backs and constructed out of MSR lumber. These design elements both provide ultimate structural quality and a less labour-intensive installation. The manufacturing process in the shop required 15 builders, and each truss weighed 1,800 pounds / 2 ply, with a 2×8 top and bottom cord.
The new 120ft x 180ft building with a 30' x 92' lean-to near Vauxhall required three separate loads on an extended trailer truck. From tip to tail, each load was 135 ft long, and accompanied by two pilot vehicles. The logistics for this type of transportation was not without their hazards and difficulties, but at the end of the week all three shipments travelled 127KM and were unloaded safely onsite by the logistics team.
What's next for Structural Truss? During the first day of shipping the 120ft truss load the team got a call from a customer looking for 125ft long clear span trusses required for a project. The team at Structural Truss will continue to look ahead to this next challenge, and the one after that, always providing the right solutions to get the job done.
