TEAMSTERS CALL ON NEVADA ASSEMBLY TO PASS BILL REQUIRING HUMAN OPERATORS IN DRIVELESS TRUCKS

CARSON CITY, Nev., May 20, 2025 ~ Las Vegas, Nevada - The Teamsters union is urging the Nevada Assembly to stand up against pressure from Big Tech lobbyists and pass Senate Bill 395. This legislation, which was approved by the state Senate last month and is now awaiting a vote in the Assembly, would require a human safety operator to be present behind the wheel of commercial vehicles weighing over 26,000 pounds.

According to Tommy Blitsch, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 631 in Las Vegas, "Big Tech companies don't care about hardworking Nevadans. Our roads should not be controlled by out-of-state billionaires." He is calling on the Assembly to support their members and the thousands of Nevadans who make a living as drivers.

The Teamsters have been actively advocating for regulations on autonomous vehicles that protect workers in state legislatures across the country. In addition to Nevada, they are currently fighting for stronger regulations in California, Delaware, and Texas.

Shane King, a 32-year Teamster and shop steward for Local 631, emphasized the importance of protecting good-paying jobs. "Why any lawmaker would want to harm the middle class is beyond me," he stated. "We urge them to support working people and pass this legislation."

Teamsters Local 631 represents workers in various industries such as gaming, construction, logistics, and transit throughout Southern Nevada. For more information on their efforts, visit teamsterslocal631.org.
