INDIANAPOLIS, May 22, 2025 ~ In a recent press release, ADISA, the nation's largest trade association for the alternative investments industry, announced the results of its 2025 market prediction survey. The survey was conducted with the participation of over 100 broker-dealers, registered investment advisory (RIA) firms, and family offices of varying sizes.

According to ADISA Board Member and co-author of the survey Greg Mausz, these results provide valuable insights for financial firms and sponsors alike. They offer a comparison to peers and a broader understanding of projections for the remainder of 2025.

The key findings from the survey indicate that financial firms have expanded their alternative investments options in terms of quantity, sponsor, and asset class. This gives financial professionals more choices in customizing alternative allocations to best suit their client's investment objectives. The survey also revealed that financial professionals continue to focus on investments that produce higher yields and those that provide tax advantages.

One notable prediction from the survey is that 1031 exchanges are expected to lead in year-over-year growth due to potentially lower interest rates. Additionally, there is increased interest in oil and gas income funds as investors look to diversify beyond real estate and private credit.

The survey also showed a growing trend among retail investors towards all types of private equity. This trend is expected to continue in 2025. Furthermore, revenue generated from alternative investments at responding firms saw a significant increase in 2024 compared to 2023.

Looking ahead, 75% of firms anticipate increased overall revenue in 2025, including increasing revenue from alternative investments allocations. The majority (87%) of responding firms reported using the Rule 506(c) exemption.

The survey also revealed changes in firm structures since ADISA's previous market prediction survey in 2019. Pure RIA firms are now more common than hybrid BD-RIA firms. Additionally, there is a growing interest among respondents for ADISA to cover cryptocurrency at future conferences.

ADISA Executive Director John Harrison commented on the survey results, stating that they reflect a maturing alternative investments space. He noted the widespread adoption of Rule 506(c), increased allocation to traditional real estate programs and private credit, and growing interest in digital assets and AI. As these trends continue, ADISA remains committed to providing its members with the education and resources needed to make informed decisions in an increasingly sophisticated market.

Compared to ADISA's 2019 survey, Section 1031 exchange offerings are now the most popular, followed by real estate-related Reg D funds. Private equity Reg D funds and private credit Reg D funds also saw increased popularity. While interval/tender funds, non-traded REITs, and opportunity zone funds had similar levels of popularity in 2025, they were more popular than in 2019.

The survey also included a new section on current trends, which revealed that while the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) by financial advisory firms is still in its early stages, its primary applications are concentrated in marketing, administration, and sales. However, many firms reported only occasional use of AI, indicating that integration across the industry is still in its nascent phase.

Reflecting the strong interest in this topic, the session "Artificial Intelligence: A Super-Agent in the Workplace" was rated as the highest breakout session at ADISA's 2025 Spring Conference. Building on this momentum, ADISA plans to host a follow-up session during its 2025 Annual Conference & Trade Show in Las Vegas this fall.

In conclusion, ADISA's 2025 market prediction survey provides valuable insights into the current state and future projections of the alternative investments industry. With a growing focus on complexity and emerging trends such as AI and cryptocurrency, it is clear that this industry is constantly evolving. As such, ADISA remains dedicated to providing its members with the necessary tools and resources to navigate this ever-changing landscape.
